Conor McGregor vs Eddie Alvarez : Tale of the tape ahead of lighweight title bout at UFC 205

Conor McGregor vs Eddie Alvarez: UFC 205 is already fast approaching – with Conor McGregor vs Eddie Alvarez announced as the headline bout on November 12.

Mcgregor vs Alvarez

There was much speculation about where ‘The Notorious’ would go next after his win over Nate Diaz – but it was confirmed last week that the Irish fighter was returning to the lightweight division to fight the American.

So, how do the two fighters compare with each other in terms of statistics?

We’ve collected a few together – and there’s a lot to suggest that this could be a close bout. For a start, the two men are exactly the same height – both standing a 5ft 9.

Whilst the pair also share the same leg reach at 40 inches, it’s McGregor who has the overall reach advantage with 74 inches against Alvarez’ 69 inches.

Both fighters are also experienced in the lightweight division – although ‘The Notorious” last fight at that weight was back in 2012, before his move in to UFC.

Fight record

Unsurprisingly, both of the two men boast brilliant records up to this point.Whilst Alvarez has only competed four times in the UFC , winning three and losing one, his overall record is an impressive 28 wins and four losses from his 32 fights.

That’s more bouts than McGregor, who has fought 23 times in his MMA career – winning 20 and losing just three.

However, it’s in how these two fighters won those matches where things start to differ.
McGregor has an incredible TKO/KO ratio of 85% – winning 5% of his fights by submission and 10% by decision.

Alvarez, on the other hand, has a lower TKO/KO ratio of 61%, but has won 18% by submission and 21% by decision.

This really has the potential to be a very exciting fight.

We know what McGregor is all about – and ‘The Notorious’ has already given out one of his now-famous predictions by saying he’ll knock his opponent out in the first round .

However, Alvarez has an aggressive style himself, with 14 of his 17 knockouts coming in the first round of fights.

The American is also a very accomplished wrestler and Brazilian jiu jistsu artist – and his more balanced stats in finishing fights suggest that there will be a plan B if he can’t land a knockout blow on McGregor.

But, as we all know, McGregor is a truly explosive talent – and his return to the lightweight division is bound to be an interesting one to say the least.
